🛑 Before setting goals for 2024, read this first!

Happy Holidays, friends!

I hope, whether you're spending time with family and friends, traveling, or simply enjoying some well-deserved relaxation, you take time over the next week to reflect on how far you've come this year.

No matter what went down in your life this year, I'm sure, if you look back, you'll find it's been a helluva journey. You're still here, wiser, stronger, and ready to take the next step in experiencing whatever this wild sleigh ride of life has in store for you.

But before you look ahead, don't forget to savor this moment, now, right where you are.

In the spirit of the new year and the season of resolutions and goal-setting, I want to share with you an insight that I wrote in my journal a few weeks ago that might be useful for you to hear.

The gap between you and what you desire isn’t as wide as you think it is.

Pause. Let that sink in.

I actually posted the full journal entry on my blog. It's a quick one-minute read, but I think it will give you a different perspective when mapping out your 2024 plans.

Have a great holiday and thanks for having me in your inbox this year. Talk to you in the new year. 🙏🏻

The Two Dangers In Growing Older
Bertrand Russell

Psychologically there are two dangers to be guarded against in old age.

One of these is undue absorption in the past. It does not do to live in memories, in regrets for the good old days, or in sadness about friends who are dead. One’s thoughts must be directed to the future, and to things about which there is something to be done. This is not always easy; one’s own past is a gradually increasing weight. It is easy to think to oneself that one’s emotions used to be more vivid than they are, and one’s mind more keen. If this is true it should be forgotten, and if it is forgotten it will probably not be true.

The other thing to be avoided is clinging to youth in the hope of sucking vigor from its vitality. When your children are grown up they want to live their own lives, and if you continue to be as interested in them as you were when they were young, you are likely to become a burden to them, unless they are unusually callous. I do not mean that one should be without interest in them, but one’s interest should be contemplative and, if possible, philanthropic, but not unduly emotional. Animals become indifferent to their young as soon as their young can look after themselves, but human beings, owing to the length of infancy, find this difficult.

Don’t Go Back To Sleep
Rumi

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase “each other”
doesn’t make any sense.
The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don’t go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don’t go back to sleep.

Procrastination Enhances Your Creative Power
Adam Grant

Instead of viewing procrastination as a purely negative habit, consider it as a valuable tool for original thinking. When we delay diving into a task, our mind continues to process ideas and make connections in the background. This incubation period allows for new insights and perspectives to emerge.
Embracing strategic procrastination means intentionally giving ourselves time to explore different paths, allowing ideas to percolate and develop.
It's about finding the balance between productivity and creativity.
So, don't be too quick to dismiss procrastination as unproductive. Embrace it as a natural part of the creative process and harness its potential to unlock fresh and innovative ideas.

Hey there conscious creator! Hope you are doing well. Ever feel like the whole concept of manifestation is just a bit too woo-woo? You're not alone. I recently received a comment from a reader on one of my posts that made me LOL: “Damn, all those 80-hour work weeks when all I had to do is ask the universe in the correct way. At least I know now.” Hilarious, right? I get it. The idea of manifesting your dreams can seem as outlandish as casting spells in a fantasy novel. It's no wonder there...
